West Norfolk Netball League – Frequently Asked Questions
These FAQ are to be read in conjunction with the West Norfolk Netball League Rules
League Registration
All players need to be registered to West Norfolk Netball League (WNNL). Initially each team needs to complete a registration form at the start of each season. The forms are available from your Division Rep or on the website for new teams (prior to the beginning of each season). The registration fee is £1 per player. Should any new players join the team mid-season (either as a ‘guest’ player or regular team member) the fee remains £1 per player.
Each team may register 16 players in any season. Exceeding the maximum number of registered players will result in points being deducted; 1 point for every player over the maximum.
All England Netball Affiliation
All players registered to a team at the start of a season are expected to be affiliated to All England Netball. This provides each player with insurance against injury and insurance in case they cause injury to another player.
Instructions on how to affiliate are here.
A ‘guest’ player may play 3 times in a year (September-August) before they need to be affiliated. Affiliation is checked by the Division Reps and if a player is found not to be affiliated they cannot play until they do affiliate. A deduction of 3 points per player will be made for playing unaffiliated players.
Paying for Games
The court fee is £10 per match. At the start of the season every team is invoiced for all of their matches. Payments are to be made by cheque, payable to WNNL and sent to the Treasurer, Jackie Farnham. Score-cards will only be issued for matches that have been paid for and a team cannot take the court if they do not have (have not paid for) the relevant score-card. This will result in the match being forfeit.
Paying the Umpires
Umpires are paid in cash prior to start of each match. The amount payable depends on the qualification the umpire holds. The umpires will usually add their fees together and then halve them so that each team pays the same amount.
Currently the fees are as follows:
Beginner Unqualified - £4.50
Beginner Qualified - £5
C Grade - £6
B Grade - £8
WNNL currently have 1 B grade umpire so the most a team will pay for their umpires is £7 per match.
Umpiring
Every team in WNNL is expected to provide an umpire to join the umpiring rota by the end of their first season. Umpires are allocated matches based on qualifications and experience. The rota is drawn up at the start of the season and is sent to all team captains and umpires as well as being posted on the WNNL website. There is also a copy available to view every Tuesday night at ‘The Barn’.
Any umpire who cannot attend their allotted time need to contact Jo Walton, Umpiring Secretary. Any queries regarding umpiring also need to be directed to Jo Walton.
Kit Needed
All teams must have 7 bibs, clearly displaying GK, GD, WD, C, WA, GA and GS. All teams must supply a match standard netball. All teams must have their own first aid kit.
How to Cancel a Match
The Umpiring Secretary and opposing Team Captain must be notified if a match needs to be cancelled. This notice must be received the Monday before the match is due to take place. Please try to ensure that cancellation notice is given verbally rather than by text, email or voicemail. If you cancel a match you are responsible for both team’s court fees (i.e. £20). If you do not provide sufficient notice for the umpires to be cancelled you will also need to pay their fees in full (currently a maximum of £13).
If you do not cancel a match and do not attend at all, all of the above fees must be paid and a 2 point deduction will be made.
